Ceiling-Mounted Recessed Kitchen Vents
Kitchen range hoods come in many different shapes and styles- from beautifully crafted and stately wall mount range hoods to ultra-modern island range hoods. For those looking for a kitchen appliance that doesn’t disrupt the aesthetic flow of your kitchen but still supplies a powerful air filtration performance, consider the ceiling-mounted surface vent. Efficient and inconspicuous, this recessed range hood is perfect for minimalist style kitchens.
What is a surface vent?
Inset in the ceiling, this insert-liner vent is only visible by its outer frame and panel. These vents are very well suited for contemporary kitchens, and can be positioned both directly over a cooktop or at any other location of the kitchen to absorb and remove cooking odors, smoke, and grease from the air. Available in a range of sizes and made from a variety of materials, including stainless steel, glass and painted steel, these luxury range hoods have been historically popular in Europe and are only recently making inroads in the US.
How do they work?
The majority of these built-in range hoods are intended for ordinary use and are designed to be ducted to the outside, as ducted range hoods provide the most efficient and thorough performance. While recessed ceiling range hoods are not as efficient as suspended range hoods, they are much easier to install within almost any ceiling type (sloped, cathedral, volted, etc) and provide a more streamlined appearance. With suspended range hoods, in order to ensure the highest quality performance of your surface vent, it is preferable to have your exhaust hood measure wider than the cooktop underneath. It is also recommended that your range hood is installed closely above the stove. With ceiling mount range hoods all these requirements are better to be met, but not crucial. However, in some cases, if your ceilings are especially tall, a soffit box may be mounted to the ceiling to reduce the amount of space between your stove top and the vent. All these advantages being mentioned, the important thing to understand that recessed ceiling hoods cannot perform as good as suspended models due to them being installed too far away from the cooking surface. They work like fans, cleaning the air in the room eventually, but not capturing all the smoke right away.
Are there other types of built-in range hood options?
Built-in range hoods that are designed to be installed inside existing cabinetry are another popular choice for kitchen owners. Installing a range hood underneath or within cabinetry allows for the vent to be closer to the stove, increasing range hood performance while still concealing the ventilation hood. Futuro Futuro offers a variety of range hoods that can be installed within cabinetry or the ceiling, including the Insert-Liner series, the Slide model, and Raccolta model.
